Clutch shots also link to smart shots. There are dumb clutch shots and there are smart ones. Taking a three with 10 seconds left and you're down 2points is a dumb clutch shot. Going to the basket, and drawing a foul with 5 seconds left and being down 2 is a smart clutch shot. Smart clutch shots are shots that put you in a win-win situation. Dumb clutch shots give you a better chance of shooting.
There are many different kinds of scenarios for clutch shots. You could be down by 13 with 4 minutes left in the fourth quarter. At that point every made shot matters, nevertheless you and your team need to be taking the right clutch shots. Deep 3's are great and all when you make them, but getting to the hoop for a layup or getting to the line after being fouled is the smart move. In the book, "Stuff Good Players Should Know" by Dick Devenzio it says, "If there is ever a time to take the ball aggressively to the basket, it is near the end when you are behind" (pg. 42).
In this video our team was down by about 10 point, i could have took the long shot but to be safe and for the sake of time i took the easier shot and went to the basket. Although i didn't get fouled i got the easiest shot possible and made our opponent's lead smaller.
While reading this book i am slowly becoming more and more aware on the court and making smarter plays. The mental part of the game is a huge part of the game. Sometimes you need to work smarter then harder. The smarter of a player you are, the more you make people better around you. In the end, you and your team will have a high IQ and a higher chance of winning the games you play.
First of all, Daylani Ballena that was a great shot. Also, I agree with what you said about dumb and smart clutch shots. Sometimes I see people playing basketball and when the game is on the line they take dumb shots, instead of passing the ball they take a three while having double coverage on them. Either wise I would go for a win-win solution.
ReplyDeleteHey Daylani. I just wanted to say that what you did was a very smart play by taking it in for a higher percentage shot. A lot of players nowadays want to be bold and put the team on their shoulders and take a bad jumpshot, but what you did shows that your ball iq is high!
