BASKETBALL VIOLATIONS

Referees have a pretty hard job, especially in professional leagues, but their job is very important for the game. The job of the referees is to call out any violations that occur during a game. These violations can be either a personal foul, technical foul, or a flagrant foul. Allow me to explain these more

  • Personal Fouls occur when a player plays too aggressively and puts the defender at a disadvantage. They usually involve physical contact such as pushing, shoving, and tripping. The offense can also cause fouls by running a defender of or pushing them
  • Technical Fouls usually occur when a player or coach is frustrated when a controversial call is made by the refs. In professional leagues, you get ejected (thrown out of the game) when you receive two technical fouls. Technical fouls usually take the form of cursing, or yelling at a referee repeatidly
  • Flagrant Fouls occur when a player uses excessive/dangerous and violent contact that could potentially severely injure a player. An example would be wrapping an arm around a players neck area or a very hard and intentional shove. Flagrant fouls usually cause a player to get ejected
After a personal foul happens, the player that got fouled goes to the free throw line and gets either 2 or 3 free throws and after a technical foul happen, the team can choose any player to shoot 1 free throw

Now that you know about the different types of fouls, do you think you'll ever commit a foul in a game?
