Cheer leading:Stretching

Every since I was in 2nd grade cheer has been my passion, I would watch all the Bring It On movies and beg my mom to not turn them off. I've cheered for 4 teams in the past 8 years and i have been captain twice. cheer shows you leadership because sometimes when your team is down because a stunt is not going right you guys are just having a off day, it's you job to lift your team up. Also how to be a good friend with patience. You team is not just your friends they are your family. But anyways I am here to tell you the ins and outs of cheer and the important parts. A lot goes into cheer so lets get started:

Stretching is probably the most important thing because this is your warm up and if you do not stretch you could tear something. In my book it says "Stretching should be apart of your routine everyday." Hunt 12.

In this picture it shows me doing my right splits and holding it for 1 minute. For our warm up at practice we do all around the worlds in which you are in split position holding it for 1 minute.

Flyers especially have to stretch because we do a lot of body potions. we have to be able to get to each one gracefully. in my book it says "Flexibility is important for performing jumps and stunts properly" Hunt 12. Me being a new flyer i have come to know that stretching everyday lets me move from one position to the next easily and not hesitant.

  1. As a basketball player i understand that stretching is a huge part of any sort of sport and can prevent many injuries. I also understand that cheer is probably very difficult and its cool that you are able to do tricks and such. How long did it take you to get the splits down? Were you always able to do that?

    1. As a kid I was very flexible and could do my splits with ease. But as I got older it was kinda of like I lost my flexibility i guess and I started stretching more to keep my splits. It took me a good 6 months to get my splits done and pack. I stretched everyday at practice and also at home when i was doing my homework or just watching TV.
