Intro to Instant Pot Cooking: Faster Meals

You wake up from a great nap and look at the time. It's 5:45 pm and your family and friends are coming for a feast at 7 pm. Your mother had to take care of the desserts, your friend, Silvia, cooked the appetizers, and your only job was to cook pot roast. The way you cook it takes 9 to 11 hours. Now you're freaking out. Well, there is a way to avoid these heart attacks. The Instant Pot lets you cook meals faster than ever.

The food that is prepared from my grandma is delicious. I've always wanted to learn how to cook. This skill can help you create something out of the simplest ingredients. But cooking something like a turkey can take too much time from your clock.The book, Instant Pot Obsession, by Janet A. Zimmerman, provides alternate recipes and techniques that speed up the cooking process.

The specific recipe I chose was the Southwestern Pot Roast. "It's got tons of flavor but only very mild heat, so it's great for a whole family" (Zimmerman 196). The pot roast takes only an hour and 25 minutes to complete. In the picture on the right, the roast is accompanied with seasoned potatoes, carrots, and bell peppers as compliments. 

The sauce included, completes the dish as a whole. Without it, everything would taste bland. To make it, you "add the beef broth, ancho chile sauce, green chiles, cumin, and oregano [to the beer in pot]" (Zimmerman 197). Little dashes of this and that can surprisingly make or break a dish, which I learned from the tongue. I thought that the minor seasoning wouldn't make a difference, but as I tasted it, I tasted every single factor of the meal.

Because of this book, I am able to learn new ways to cook dishes that are traditionally made. The benefit is having more time to do what you desire, rather than staring at the dish, hoping it doesn't burn.

I'm excited to try out new ways of cooking with the Instant Pot and better my understanding of being a beginner in the kitchen!

  1. Does the Instant pot give the same taste and end result, as the way that you would normally cook it? If not, what is different about it?

    1. The Instant Pot way has the same result of how you cook it normally. In my opinion, I believe that using the Instant Pot is more efficient. You have spared time and less chances to make mistakes! But in the end, you do get the same taste. It's like a math problem: there's more than one way to solve it.

  2. The pot roast looks like really flavorful with the vegetables to compliment it. Does cutting out several hours of cooking make the taste different? Does the pot roast get fully cooked?

    1. The pot roast does get fully cooked which surprised me! I didn't think the Instant Pot would work, but once I tried the pot roast, it tasted delicious! Also thanks, the vegetables really did compliment the pot roast.

  3. I normally do not like pot roast but the pot roast you made looks like it is very good and the variety of vegetables on the side was a good idea.Does the vegetables on the side make the taste of the roast better?

    1. I do believe that the vegetables make the roast taste better! If you eat the pot roast by itself, you might get tired of the same meat taste on your tongue. The potatoes, carrots, and peppers all balance out the flavor.

  4. What is the serving size on the pot roast? Is it enough for more than one person?

    1. The serving size of the pot roast is a 3-3.5 pound boneless chuck roast, about 3 inches thick, as it says in my book. It is more that enough for one person. Although if I was alone in the house, I would probably keep it to myself.
