Common Soccer Injuries and How to Treat Them

More often than not once in a while, our favorite player gets hurt and it's disappointing. Whether its basketball, soccer, or any sports everyone can get injured. Most injuries are relatively minor but some can be catastrophic. And if you don't treat minor injuries properly they can become major. The acronym R.I.C.E can be used to treat minor injuries. R.I.C.E stands for rest, ice, compression, and elevation. You should stop physical activity immediately and take the weight off injury. Apply an ice pack for about 20 minutes and repeat each hour for twenty hours. For compression wrap the injury in a bandage. Then finally raise the injured body part in order to reduce swelling. Bruising is the most common injury of soccer and it can be treated by the R.I.C.E method. The most common form of ankle injury is a sprain, a sprain is caused by stretching or tearing of ankle ligaments. You will need to use R.I.C.E on this but then go see a doctor because physical therapy may be involved. More common injuries in soccer include the lower leg, calf, knee, groin, torso, head, thigh and sometimes even broken bones are involved. You can also get injuries by too much physical activity so don't overdo it unless you know your body can take it. Injuries can occur at any times of a soccer game no matter the level your playing at either.

  1. Thank you! This article was very informative. Even though I haven't had any serious injuries in the past I always use ice. Have you had any major injuries in the past?
