Jumps

Since Kentridge isn’t a tumbling team jumps substitute for that. They are one of the major factors that determine if you go to state or not. I can say its not my favorite part of the routine but as a cheerleader we must take it seriously. I have been doing cheer ever since I was about 7 and judges are always score hard when it comes to jumps. Now jumps are something you work towards. We all don’t start out with high jumps.

Our coach took us to a jump clinic at south elite, they taught many techniques and ways to improve our jumps. Because let’s face it every cheerleaders goal is to get have pretty and high jumps. In the book it says, “Do jump drills for 5 to 10 minutes as part of your stretch routine” (Sara R. Hunt) our instructor gave us a set of drills. One of the, is called fast kicks. You have your arms out in a 90-degree angle and you kick you leg up with you toes pointed. You want to have your leg behind your arm to practice the hyper extended motion.

Now my jump isn't that very high but I follow the steps of having my toes pointed and having my legs behind my arms that are in a 90 degree angle. This is a major section in our warm up at practice because our goal is to score high in the jump category.
