Soccer Knowledge

Starting out!

I have been playing soccer since I was 6 years old and its the only sport that's ever interested me. It is also interesting to me to find out things about the sport that I didn't know before, the more you know about the game, the better! In the book Soccer by Jenny Mackay it says, "...and the roots of the game may be as old as the human race itself." There is so much you can learn about the sport you love when it has been around for so long.

Soccer has been all over the place since the earliest times including The Americas. Europe, and Asia. The rules have changed since those times. For example, in the English schools back then you were allowed to touch the ball with your hands but everyone now knows that is not okay unless you are the goalkeeper. The no hands rule has always been the most controversial.

Soccer is a very popular sport today and is celebrated all over still. The more you learn about the origins and history of soccer you can see why people get so passionate in playing and watching the sport. It is a big part in a lot of peoples lives and culture. In the next posts I will be sharing the basics of soccer and give you the knowledge you need to go out and try it!

If you have never played soccer before would it interest you to try it? Why or why not?

  1. What made you get interested in soccer at such a young age? Do you plan to make this a career?

    1. Sanai, I had tried out ballet and other dance related activities and none seemed to interest me when I was little. In kindergarten there was a soccer camp at my elementary and I wanted to go very badly for some reason. I actually enjoyed it unlike the other sports I had done before and so my parents put me in a more organized team. It would awesome if I could play soccer in college but I don't know if I would want it as a career.
