Signature Moves

Signature Moves

We all know that when it comes professional athletes they love to create there own signature move. It takes on person to notice it to make a world wide phenomenon. When it comes to basketball there are multiple players that have made a name for themselves from one small play. Famous basketball coach once said "Everyone is born with a certain potential. You may never achieve your full potential, but how close you come depends on how much you want to pay the price." (Auerbach).

Michael Jordan

Jordan has the most noticeable signature move in the history of basketball. From stealing the ball or just running on a fast break, when Michael Jordan is about to dunk he sticks out his tongue signifying the greatness of the play.

Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bean Bryant is one of the best players to ever play basketball. From perfecting is fade away to hitting the game winning shot. Personally I would say Kobe has a lot of signature moves but only one sticks out. The killer fade away.

LeBron James

Lastly, LeBron is today the most iconic player in the world. From playing with the Cleveland Cavaliers to joining the Miami Heat to create super team. He has a very popular shoe brand which has the King's crown. However, we all know LeBron as the Dunk King.

Watching players do crazy and unique things is what the audience loves, we practice every day hoping to be like mike, or to shoot like Kobe, or to dunk like LeBron. Lot of the new NBA players probably know one signature move, and that is Stephen Curry three's. Watching the Golden state warriors, we all hope to see a crazy performances by Curry hitting multiple three's in a game. Now, we have the back court duo that we all love to watch, The Splash Brothers.

Me personally I wouldn't consider myself of having a signature move. However I do have my most used or favorite moves to do is a simple crossover with a step-back at the end.

Realizing the fact that players that signature moves comes from great offense of movement which help create space for that player to do his magic. Setting screens, or getting the rebounds can lead to major offenses play. In the Zoning Offenses book it says, " Most zone defense desire to limit the offense to one hurried outside shot. Because of this fact, the zone offensive players must move the ball and be strategically aligned." (Krause and Harkins).

What is your favorite player signature move? Or your own signature move?

  1. Hey Kalid!
I really enjoyed reading your blog about signature moves in basketball. To answer your question, my favorite player signature move is Kobe Bryant's killer fade away because it is one of the most iconic signature moves ever and one of the most lethal. I don't have a signature move myself but just like you I do have a lot of moves that I really enjoy using like the step back.

    1. Thank you Gurshan for you wonderful reply. I can see that you enjoy basketball as mush as I do and that chess is very similar to basketball in a way of creating moves on and of the court/board. I also love Kobe fade away and it is nice to see that you know how to use the step back, Well, Once again Thank you.
