To start off, the rules when wearing a baseball cap told by the author Tim Gunn says that you should take off the cap at two times, the first when your inside and the second when greeting someone that you would like to show extra respect to.
On page 257 in the book Tim Gunn's Fashion Bible, Gunn states that "...hats should come off: Indoors (unless you're a woman at the royal wedding" (Gunn and Calhoun 257). What Gunn is trying to get across is that hats aren't needed inside so there's no point in having them on, it's like sunglasses, you wear them outside to block the sun and remove them once you're inside.

Gunn also says that you should take your hat off "When you're greeting someone to whom you want to show extra respect (unless you're outside in a snowstorm)" (Gunn and Calhoun 257). I agree with Gunn on this one too because it is an easy way to show signs of respect. Also when you take your hat when greeting someone it shows that you have good manners and are a polite person.

Taking Care of Your Cap
When taking care of your cap there are some things to keep in mind. Gunn says that you should give your hat the same amount of care as you would give to your clothing. Your hat should be washed and be kept in good condition, don't let it look dirty and unappealing (Gunn and Calhoun 257). I think that clean hats look the best, but hats that appear dirty or wrinkly can also be played well if paired with the right pieces of clothing. In the picture below, you can see that the hat is a little wrinkly but it looks great with the outfit that it is paired with.

ReplyDeleteYour blog post was extremely didactic! I would agree with all the rules the author applies in wearing baseball caps as they are just basic manners and common sense. My favorite way that I would style baseball caps is by wearing an athletic and relaxed outfit such as a sweatshirt and a regular pair of leggings to pair it up with a baseball cap to keep it simple. On what occasion do you most wear baseball caps?

DeleteIt's nice to see you comment again! I love how you like to style your baseball caps because I think that it gives a nice sporty and comfortable look! For me I wear baseball caps either when I'm having a bad hair day or when I want my outfit to be more casual and laid back. I feel that baseball caps really help outfits achieve that laid back look, but still keep you outfits looking nice!

I personally don't wear hats because school doesn't allow it but I feel as it won't fit me as a person. But your blog gave me some inspiration. Keep up the hard work!

Hi Baljot! I really like your post. I love wearing baseball caps and hats in general. I agree with Gunns rules, however I think that if the cap you're wearing really pulls the outfit together, then it is okay to leave it on inside.My favorite way to style baseball caps is to wear them with some jeans or shorts in the summer with a causal shoe and shirt. I wear baseball caps a lot since my brother plays baseball, so its pretty natural for me to just throw one on to wear to a game or just out with friends.

I think that they look best with casual outfits and they're nice to keep the sun out from our eyes. I agree with you on the point where if the cap ties an outfit together then it's alright to leave the cap on inside because otherwise it can make the outfit look odd or unfinished. ReplyDeleteHi Baljot! I really liked your post, I found it very interesting, because I never really thought too much about the "rules" of baseball hats. But I do totally agree with you when it comes to the look of the hat- I think with the right outfit, a hat the looks a little worn-in would be really cute. I personally don't wear hats very much, because I've never thought I look good in them but I definitely want to try one out sometime.
