Rond de Jambe
For my final installment in my blog posts, I will be going back to a simple barre exercise. The rond de jambe or "circle of leg" which is just a circular motion performed by one leg, really creative with the name, I know. In my book it says "the working leg passes through first position on the count and executes the outward circle on the upbeat" (Warren 98) the musical accents are fairly straight through in this exercise.Starting a rond de jamb from first, you will work through a third position into a téndu. It is important to remain turned out for the entire circle, it can be easy to lose your focus and turn in. As you work through your third position into a téndu, you should lead with your toes not your heel for a more fluid motion.
Next, on the upbeat you will move to the side and outwards, continuing with full turn out and a properly pointed food. Rond de jambes may also be completed without stopping, but for the purpose of these photos it will be easier to demonstrate stopping motions at designated spots. Depending how your turn out is, your foot will in a different place to the side from others.
When you circle bag, maintain a nice big circular movement like you are drawing a circle with your foot as a marker, and you will move to a téndu to the back. When your foot if behind you, you try to "hide" your heel behind your other leg while trying to not sickle your foot.
Finally, you move into a third position from the back and then back to first to complete the movement.
This ends my last blog post! I hope you enjoyed learning about Ballet with me. What are your favorite exercises or steps in Ballet? Please, tell me in the comments!
